Polgooth Village Hall
Hiring the Hall
The village hall is available for hire. Whether it is a birthday party, anniversary celebration, band practice or a club you're looking to set up, the village hall could be the perfect place for you. We charge reasonable rates, and don't currently charge an hourly rate.
Our rates - last updated Feb 2023 (subject to change, please call our bookings secretary for up to date prices):
Morning session - £25
Afternoon session - £25
Evening session - £30
Band practice - £15 (depending on how long the hall is required)
Prices can be negotiated if you are local to the village, looking to set up a regular club. We welcome anyone who wants to hold an event or regular club that will directly benefit the village hall e.g. donation of proceeds raised.
The main hall has 40+ brown and white plastic chairs available for use, with more available if required (please ask about this when booking). There are plenty of trestle tables that can be used for any event. In the back hall, big foldable metal tables are also available. The kitchen facilities include a microwave, fridge, toaster, oven, hob and a hot water urn.
Please be aware that parking is very limited directly outside the hall.
We will try to keep the calendar below regularly updated so that you can clearly see if the hall is available when you need it before enquiring further.

Improvements made to the Village Hall
The village hall committee meet every two months to discuss village hall matters and help promote village events. The committee have made a commitment over the last couple of years to carry out much needed improvements to the hall. This is not an easy task, as finances are limited, meaning external grants sometimes need to be applied for. The committee have tried their best to run fundraising events throughout the year to raise the much needed money.
It's been a long time coming, but progress is gradually being made. In the Spring of 2015, a working party of eight cleaned up the outside of the hall and gave it a coat of paint. Later on in the year, we were able to replace the very tatty curtains with a generous donation from The Polgooth Times. In the Autumn, we were able to secure funding of £1295 from the CCF Manor Solar Farm fund to replace the glass units in the front hall, which had lost their seals and were becoming condensated on the inside.

Securing a central heating system in the village hall has been talked about for many years, and has been a particular focus for us over the last year. We have secured some additional funding from Bernard Sunley, but still had to wait for our finances to be at a healthy enough level to get the work done. We are now at the stage whereby we should be able to get the project completed in the front hall and kitchen by the Winter of 2016, so watch this space for further updates. This will mean that the hall is at a comfortable temperature throughout the winter for hall users and a supply of hot water will always be available.
The car park was in a state of disrepair for the best part of two years. Again, finances had been an issue in getting this resolved. We could have produced a quick fix, filling in the pot holes that appeared, but this would only need to be done again in the near future. The best option for the long term was to cut out the existing surface and tarmac it, but this doesn't come cheap. Thankfully, the parish council agreed to provide some additional funds for us to complete this job. The work was completed at the end of August 2016.
